Izzy Learns To Swim

Having a pool with one child that doesn't know how to swim scares me. Isabelle was never allowed downstairs by herself. I was constantly checking all three locks on the back door. So when Matt was on vacation in September we thought it would be the perfect time to teach her how to swim.

At first Isabelle didn't want to even try. She knows she's not allowed anywhere near the pool without her floaties. After a lot of coercing from Matt she agreed to give it a try. At first Matt would just swim around holding her. Then he would have her jump to him from off the steps or the side of the pool. After one lesson she had enough courage to try on her own.

Watching her swim makes me want to laugh and be scared at the same time. She swims kind of like an otter with just her head out of the water. I know that if she fell in she would be able to swim to the side or the steps. We still watch her like a hawk when she's in the pool and when we go inside I still lock all three of the locks.
